An intragastric balloon (IGB) is inserted through the mouth using an endoscope and inflated with saline once it is in the stomach. It suppresses appetite by filling the stomach and aids in weight loss. This is done as an outpatient procedure over 20-30mins, under sedation.

The Spatz3 Adjustable balloon system is used. In contrast to typical IGBs, the volume of the Spatz3 can be adjusted when required to increase effectiveness and boost weight loss. It can also be left in place for a year, as opposed to 6 months for other IGBs.
